Exactly why do you need that new phone?

Exactly why do you need that new phone?

The papers are getting fatter (we still get an actual newspaper – do you?) Oodles of flyers keep telling us all the new things that we need, or that our significant others need in order to make themselves happy.

This is certainly the season of gift-giving and we aren’t here to get in the way of all that. What we are here to do is ask the tough questions and today’s question is:

Exactly why do you need that new phone?

Or new fridge, or new whatever-it-is? If our goal is to teach our kids gratitude, then we need to be sure that we are living and modelling it, this holiday and all year round.

There is nothing wrong with something new or a special gift – what makes it special is that it doesn’t happen all the time. We encourage you to take a look at the messages you are sending to your family.

Do you replace things before they need to be replaced?
Do you buy things for your family to make them happy?
Does it work? Can things really make people happy?
Do you go into debt every holiday season in order to buy the right things?
If yes, what messages does that send to your kids?

Our goal with our Thoughtful Thursday emails is to guide you to live the life you want – one that is intentional. Kids learn what they live and by answering these questions, you can continue to live what you really want your kids to learn.

Have a great and gratitude-filled week!
